Very helpful staff, they took us on a tour to show us why there construction method is better than industry standard. Great prices and selection of plans.
Rye was great to help us get started with the planning phase. Looking forward to learning more!
I recently had the pleasure of working with the Vermont Frames crew, and I couldn’t be happier with the experience. Their commitment to timeliness was impressive, as they consistently arrived on schedule and completed the project promptly. The precision in their workmanship truly stood out, showcasing a level of expertise that exceeded my expectations. I highly recommend this crew for anyone seeking reliable and skillful timber frame construction services.

Dear Jim,
Susan and I thank you all for helping us reach this exciting stage of our project. The frame is wonderful, the beautiful oak well chosen and prepared and the various thoughtful details nicely handled.
Rich did a fine job, worked well with our local fellows and was certainly easy to have around. We also enjoyed the time spent with him beyond the workday. Mike’s joining us on raising day was a wise suggestion, key to accomplishing the whole thing in that single day. We commend them both, mindful that the success of your business ultimately depends on their competence.
Finally, we are grateful to you, Jim, for the development process, coaching us through it and accommodating the unpredicatabilities of scheduling in a tough winter. Convey our thanks to Peter as well.
Yours truly,
Dick & Susan
I got several quotes and did a lot of research. VT frames was by far the best choice! Great communication along with professional crew in the office and the field. I highly recommend them!
Your product is exceptional in quality but the real difference for me was the always-on support from start to finish. If it wasn’t for you guys I would have had great difficulty in sustaining confidence to make all of this happen. I can’t thank you enough for that!
Fantastic job! These guys are the real deal. They far exceeded our expectations. Definitely team players.
I cannot say enough great things about Vermont Frames, their staff, their framers, or the specific people I’ve worked with there. They spent at least 40+ hours on the phone with me, answering all my questions about their frames, their process, and their approach – all before I signed any purchase agreement with them. I never visited them or one of their homes, never met them in person, never called previous clients – I just knew from our discussions they weren’t going to sell me a frame and leave me hanging.
Over the 2 years I spent building my dream house, they answered every call, every email, and every question without hesitation, and always with a note of encouragement and support. 4 years later, I’d do it again in a heartbeat, and they’d be the first people I’d call to get started. They treated me and my home like their reputation depended completely on it, and every person that enters my house for the first time praises their craftsmanship without fail.

To the whole gang at Vermont Frames and Foam Laminates.
Thank you for all the help with our new home.

Project is complete.
It looks absolutely fantastic! And far exceeded everyone’s expectations.
Thank you for your part – it was a pleasure to work with you and [Vermont Frames]. Please stop by someday to take a look.
Best Wishes.

Just ordered my new home, can’t wait to see it go up.

It was just a few months over two years ago that I wrote you with our plans for the Flanders Nature Center Sugar House. Enclosed is a picture from the Waterbury Republican, our local paper, taken during our dedication ceremony.
In my first letter, I wrote, ” As you can see, it is a bit more than just a barn, so we are counting on your help and expertise.” Well, we got that and more from you, Adrian Brian, and the rest of your crew to whom we at Flanders extend our deepest thanks.
Put this newspaper page on your wall with pride and send anybody by to take a look.

Once again, you really went beyond the call of duty to help us out. We greatly appreciate your efforts and just love the beams and mantle.
With Gratitude & Great Appreciation

We were impressed with how well the frame went together (in a day!) and the forethought that went into shipping it and getting everything right for a smooth raising.
I hired Vermont Frames to build our dream home, and it was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made in my life. The entire process, from start to finish, was very very smooth. The guys in their office are top-notch and very timely. When they sent their field crew, I was blown away by how talented, hardworking, and humorous they were. I am truly grateful to have had my home built by these guys. I cannot say enough great things about them.

Dear Jim,
My family would like to thank you for being so kind in planning and providing us with a post and beam frame barn.
Tom Tomasi, craftsman, is certainly an outstanding representative of your firm. He not only provided the expertise to erect the frame but also the inspiration and guidance for our crew. We personally appreciated the opportunity to erect our barn – a memory that will last a lifetime. But more than that, he had the patience and courtesy to work with us. We admire him.
Gary Laflam, my son Erich and I have finished the decking on the hay mow floor. You might be please to know that in laying this wood we found all timbers to be square and true and the measurements “on square” to be with 1/8″. We think that’s pretty good!
Somewhere along the line, our barn raising photos will be developed and we will forward some candids to you. In the meantime, please know how pleased we are with your firm and your personal efforts in working with us.
Sincerely,
Richard
We built an outdoor kitchen area and had Jim and his team at Vermont Timber frames design and build a beautiful Douglas Fir Post and Beam structure. I was extremely satisfied with their construction crew and the high quality of their frames. Have recommended them to many people and hope to do more business with them in the future.

Our knowledge of the building processes was very limited when we decided to build a house. Our hearts were set on a timber frame for its esthetic, durability and efficiency. The first time we spoke with Vermont Frames we knew we were in safe hands.
They were accommodating with our tight timeline and recommended our local GC, who had 40+ years of experience with this specific type of build. Their design team suggested changes to our floor plan which gave us more space without impacting our budget.
We enjoyed visiting the shop in Starksboro to see how the timbers are cut and marked for placement. Kevin, Josh and the entire crew were extremely welcoming and took the time to walk us through their hand crafted process. It wasn’t lost on them that this was a big deal for us and they shared in our excitement.
We were onsite when the frame went up to watch this skilled crew do what they do best, build dream homes. That’s a day we’ll always remember.
Seeing timber transform into a house, and eventually a home, is unbelievably impressive. We’re forever grateful for Vermont Frames.
Your crew worked long hours in some of Minnesota’s nastiest heat and brought us to a point where we could hire local people to finish up. The people around here were amazed to see what you accomplished in such a short time. Everyone who comes by is impressed by this structure and you may be getting some inquiries!
Really great company experience. Project was a 15 x 24 covered patio. Douglas Fir, planed, with all the trimmings. Measurements were provided and the Kit came fully ready for assembly. Everything fit perfect. The Job Foreman, Ron, was a joy. Josh was inside sales and completely professional. I highly recommend this company. Price was surprisingly reasonable.
The Vermont Frames team did an outstanding job on my 15×30 free standing pavilion. The fit and finish was perfect, and the guys were an absolute pleasure to deal with!
We are absolutely impressed and in love with the timber frame! The wood and the workmanship are awesome, every piece slid effortlessly into place. You guys were good sports, you know your stuff and kept everything moving along.

Excellent craftsmanship on our timber frame. I shopped around and their pricing was by far the best but did not take away a drop of quality. The road crew that installed the frame were skilled and professional.
But all in all we are very pleased with the results and would highly recommend them to anyone looking for a quality timber frame!
Your competitors tried to convince me to let them design the house for me, even though they didn’t really understand what I wanted to achieve in the way of energy efficiency, while charging me a lot of money in the process. In contrast, you and your team took the time to listen to my goals, made sure you understood them, answered my questions and helped me work out solutions to problems which presented themselves. And you were willing to do this both before and after we’d signed the contract. That made it possible for me to design the house myself in a manner which I’m confident will be able to meet the rigorous EPA Energy Star efficiency standards.

Dear Jim,
…
Thanks for your good work. I enjoyed seeing the framing of our house photo on the brochure from Vermont Frames.
Sincerely,
Don S.

Enclosed are some picture of our house that I thought you might like.
The house is unbelievable, and we enjoy it more every day.
We attribute much of the successful results to Vermont Frames and your personal efforts. You can use us as a reference anytime.
Thanks to you and Peter, and it is our hope that you can visit us sometime.
I have been on site just about every day admiring the work your crews are doing. Both the at home crew building the frames and joinery, and the crew on site erecting it. It’s coming together beautifully! It’s a work of art, only better because I get to live in it.
We are living in our dream house! I still wake up in awe of it all: the structural beauty, the uniqueness, the warmth of the wood. We hear it from every single person that walks through our doors.
I cannot say enough about the great people at Vermont Frames. The office staff are professional, courteous, responsive, and beyond patient. And the field crew are extremely polite, prompt, hard working, clean, and incredibly efficient.
It is very foreign to me for a contractor to undersell and overperform to the extent that Vermont Frames does. My expected construction schedule for our garage and home timber frame and SIPS packages was a duration of approximately 2 1/2 weeks. The crew mobilized to our site on a Monday and were done and cleaned up by the following Wednesday morning! The work day starts no later than 5:30AM and anything less than a 12 hour day was a “short day”. Our two structures were completed in 6 working days! Wish I could add a few more dozen stars here from a happy, happy, happy client…

Vermont Frames was amazing to work with, they were very accommodating as when my project had to be delayed 5 months. This team is well oiled, they all work great together. I highly recommend using their crane service, it is like a dance they way they move the beams, the hand signals and timing of everything.

Dear Jim,
I want to take this opportunity to thank you for ALL the help you and the people at Vermont Frames gave Linnet and myself during the design, planning, and execution phases of my house in Guilford, CT. When one of your potential customer embarks on a project that leads from the design for a house to the far more personal journey of designing a house that is to become ones home, the process takes on many more complex undertones and demands. And when that customer also has a year to think up special features and mull over changes to that home, you as a builder have a potential nightmare on your hands. Yet the people at Vermont Frames again and again came through with excellent suggestions, good humor, an understanding of our economic constraints, and ultimately and most importantly an excellently crafted and erected building for our site on six acres overlooking Long Island Sound.
As a person with some small experience in building post and beam structures and who built and lived in one some twenty years ago, I had high standards for choosing a company to build a home in which my wife and I would be happy to spend the rest of our years. Recommendations from friends for whom you had built a frame originally led us to your door but it was your unflagging helpfulness and comprehension of our wishes that led to the final successful completion of the beautiful frame.
Yet no letter to you or Vermont Frames would be complete without saying something about the actual craftsmen who did the actual chiseling, sawing, mortising, planeing, sanding (and lifting of green timbers, I am sure they would add) on the frame. I had the privilege of meeting several of them when they erected the frame on my site. the skill level, conscientiousness, and overall intelligence of the post and beam framers has always impressed me, but this crew stood out even among this group. Because the time constraints imposed by early New England April weather they worked from 6:30 am until after 9 pm (with lights) which could easily have led to much grousing and flagging of work intensity. Yet I never heard a complaint and many times saw them stop to take care of what might have been an overlooked detail of workmanship to a lesser crew. And it was not only myself but the neighbors who marveled at their work and have often commented on it long after the crew departed. I will always be grateful to John and Andy and Matt and Brian and Mark both collectively for the care, skill and integrity with which they worked, and individually for the fine young men they are. How a company finds a crew like this is beyond me. Part of the reason for this is undoubtedly due to Mark Knowles whose skill at managing humans is as great as his skill as a timber framer. he is one of those rare individuals who knows how and when to manage (effortlessly), when to show by example, and when to pitch in on the actual work. And the whole crew appeared to be well on their way to learning these skills. A leader can be paid no higher compliment.
Since the frame has gone up it has become something of a curiosity in the area. People who first saw the crane, or wives bringing back husbands to see the building, or interested construction workers have all complemented my wife and myself on the building we know to be yours. We have given several your name and hope it brings you future business. You all deserve it.
Again, thanks from both Linnet and myself for all your help.
Sincerely,
Richard and Linnet

Now that our frame is complete I would like to write a quick note to express our pleasure in dealing with everyone from Vermont Frames…
I can think of no better way of expressing our satisfaction other than by simply saying our frame looks great. Completed, it is everything we hoped it would be and more. The overall quality of the work is excellent and I can’t say enough good things about Mike Gilley. His skills as a carpenter as well as his conscientious attitude and attention to detail really made our job turn out as well as it did. Whatever you’re paying him, it isn’t enough so give him a raise!
As the construction continues over the next few months please feel free to drop by and check on our progress or pass our phone number to other prospective buyers. We would be happy to give them a tour as well as our recommendation that they do business with Vermont Frames. Thank you again.

The house is officially finished, furnished, and landscaped. You and your team have been a pleasure to work with. No matter how trivial or dumb the question, I always felt that I could call you to discuss the issue. Y’alI were great!

My wife and I, being newly married, set out to build our 32 x 24 cape dream home in 1998. Being young, naive, and poor we decided to do “much” of the work ourselves. Fortunately, we chose Vermont Frames/Foam Laminates who were with us all the way. The project went smoothly regardless of our lack of knowledge. Frame and panels showed when they said they would and always took our calls.
The primary heat source comes from a Monitor Inc. GF1800 Space Heater rated at 15000 B.T.U.s. We also have a Jotul 602 wood stove. The panels and the orientation of the house allowed us to use very little energy over the years. On sunny days during winter the house will heat to above 65 on the coldest days. The panels allow for that much solar/thermal gain. Also, I would emphasize how well the house performs like an adobe house even in 90-plus temperatures. If we had the money, we would have gone with higher R-value roof panels-we would highly recommend this to any buyer. They will pay for themselves quickly!! As you know this is where almost all heat is lost which has even led us to the belief that nothing should penetrate the roof (understanding the cost/benefit issues).
We still live in our cape today and are not surprised in any way that Vermont Frames and Foam Laminates are still thriving today.

I wanted to thank you and the whole team for the great experience it has been to work with you. The precision workmanship was nothing short of spectacular. Your guys worked tirelessly and flawlessly, all with good humor. They made everything look easy. That barn frame went together like it was machined out of steel. Very impressive!

Jim,
Just a note to let you know how much we appreciated Brian. He has a great attitude and represents your company very well. I would have tried to steal him from you but I knew he wouldn’t move to New Jersey.
Dave

Wanted to thank you for all your efforts involving the construction of our new home. It’s impossible to find some of the materials we thought made our Vermont home special and we really appreciate your going to the extra trouble of shipping the tongue and groove for the roof. Our option was what they call “car siding” out here and would not have been nearly as nice as what you shipped. We appreciated getting the oak from Lathrop’s. Leaving Vermont was difficult and we still will have some Vermont in our new home!
We also want you to know that Mark Knowles represents your company in a very professional way and his help was very much appreciated by us.
Mark Driscoll’s crew worked long hours in some of Minnesota’s nastiest heat and brought us to a point where we could hire local people to finish up. The people around here were amazed to see what was accomplished in such a short time. Everyone who comes by is impressed by this structure and you may be getting some inquiries! With the construction costs so high out there, people would be wise to see what you have to offer.
The roof is shingled. We have walls framed and are waiting on the electrician. It shouldn’t be too long now! Thanks so much to you all!
Sincerely,
Randy & Barb
We built with Vermont Frames 12 years ago already but seems like it was yesterday.
The positive adjectives (5 of them) that are available to attach to the review are nowhere near enough to describe how happy (and lucky) we were to have gone with Jim and the VF crew for our build. Ours was a self-build where we were our own general contractor and Jim and the crew went way above and beyond to make sure not only that we had a successful build but we had a ton of fun and a lifetime of memories from doing it. We are in Canada and got quotes from 4 companies in total with VF being the only one from the U.S. The decision was an easy one and it wasn’t only financial, we felt 100% confident up front that Jim and the crew were going to help us to be successful building the home of our dreams and the great memories to go with it. They delivered on that and then some.

I have hired Vermont Frames on several timber frame homes, and the experience has been exceptional every time. From the start, their design process is easy and collaborative, working seamlessly with us and our clients as one team. Vermont Frames is responsive, keeping projects moving efficiently from planning through construction, all with a clear focus on the homeowner experience. Their commitment doesn’t stop when their scope ends, they check in on-site, remain available for questions, and are flexible when changes arise. When we need support in the field, their framers arrive promptly, work professionally, and fit right in with our crew. Vermont Frames is a trusted partner in delivering beautiful, lasting homes.

My wife and I started our timber frame process with VT Frames a few years ago. Working with VT Frames design team throughout the many small revisions to get our future home just right.
The time to build finally came. Crew showed up early on a Monday and took a half a day to unload and transport material to site due to a challenging driveway. The crew never missed a beat, and we were amazed on how well everyone on this crew knew their role and what to do to keep the project progressing. Crew was easy to interact with and enjoyable to work with. The crew kept my wife and I up to speed throughout the build and before you knew it the frame was completed. We can’t thank the field crew and entire VT Frames staff enough on a great build and great experience.

I will be up there for the first time this weekend, excited to see the finished barn. Thank you for the constructive working relationship during our project. My brother was up there regularly and was very impressed with your team!
I have about 25 years experience as a contractor and have seen the good, the bad and the ugly when it comes to other contractors and their work.
My wife and I are currently in the process of building our dream home here in NY.
We first met Vermont Frames about 8 years ago at a log and timber frame home show in Lake George. The knowledge and craftsmanship of their staff and work stood out above the rest. About two years ago we contracted Jim and his crew at Vermont Frames for our build. From the design process right though the completion of the install they were nothing but excellent! The quality of the work and the professionalism of they’re staff is nothing less than 5 star.
I would highly recommend them to anyone in the Timber Frame or SIPS market.
This was our first timber frame experience. We found Vermont Frames online and from the first conversation felt comfortable with the Vermont Frames team.
Communciation was great, and they helped us throughout the process of settling on a design and selecting appropriately sized timbers for the project. Despite the modest size of the project, we felt like we had their full attention. the frame was fabricated and delivered on time and the price was very reasonable. We would happily work with Vermont Frames again.

Jim,
I’ve been meaning to drop you a note to tell you how grateful we are to everyone there that worked on our frame. Including the great guys you sent to set it up. If I’m not mistaken I think the foreman’s name was Andy and I can’t remember the crane driver’s name. The were both very helpful to my husband and his friends when setting it up.I noticed you have a job coming up in Little Falls, NY. That’s about 30 minutes from us. If you ever have someone that wants to see your work and they live near us, my husband loves showing our house off.
We moved in December 2002. It took my husband and our friend… about 20 months to complete the house. We are very please with the results!! This summer we are building a deck and next year maybe the attached garage.
My husband will admit he wanted to do most of the work himself, but it didn’t take long into the job to realize that building a house yourself is too much work. Especially when you have 3 kids. Bill ended up working for us pretty much full time and we hired a few things out, taping and painting.
Once again, Thank you and if anyone wants to see your work please let us know. We will gladly show them our DREAM HOUSE!!
Colleen R

We just wanted to thank you all for your work on our new home! It is beautiful and we love it. We moved in December 22. Our Certificate of Occupancy is dated December 26, 1996. Our home shipped on September 26, so that was 3 months to completion (Harry loves to tell people that).
It is below zero today. Our propane fireplace was on this morning at 7:30 and will not come on again until 8:00 or later this evening. Our home is so well insulated with the SIP panels that we truly expect a heating bill of less than $10 per month when it is -10 outside! If you are ever in our area, please stop by and visit.
